Physics Triumphant In 2007 League

League CupWell, I’ve just returned from 2 weeks away, including the last 7 days in the sunshine in the south of France. Life is good, especially considering that the results for the 2007 league have now been updated, and it’s my great pleasure in informing you that with 18 points the Cavendish Cricket Club is the clear winner by 4 points over our nearest rivals, Engineering.

Well done all!

To add to the glory, the Department has seen fit to sponsor our victory celebration to the tune of £50 (thanks Justin P). Now all we need to do is decide when and where. So, please log in to the Forum one last time for the season and let us know your preferences for the curry night! Where and when? The poll will be active for the next week.

Congratulations again boys.

Awash with runs

We tried our best, but this evening’s match against Chemistry was abandoned after we lost the toss and elected to bat during the one sunny burst of the night. Brett and Colin blasted their way to 0/67 off only 7 overs before being were forced off the ground by rain. The game is to be rescheduled.

Nets on Tuesday 1 May

Lads,

A minute’s silence for Anzac Day please, while you contemplate the following words.

Jack: What are your legs?
Archie: Springs. Steel springs.
Jack: What are they going to do?
Archie: Hurl me down the track.
Jack: How fast can you run?
Archie: As fast as a leopard.
Jack: How fast are you going to run?
Archie: As fast as a leopard!
Jack: Then let’s see you do it.

– Gallipoli, Directed by Peter Weir

It’s that time of year boys — when after months of sitting in our foxholes consuming only the meagre rations provided by Sky Sports commentary (or worse: BBC highlights) we turn to each other, fasten our kit bags to our backs and march over the top, screaming “AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIYYYYYY!!!!!” while we advance over enemy lines.

Now if you think this is melodramatic, just wait until we meet our first opponents, the evil men of The Blackheath Sunday 2nd XI. I have it on good authority that their hand-picked death squad is battle-hardened and baying for blood, so we need to be prepared come May 6th.

For this reason, chaps, I am calling upon you all to be present and ready for inspection at 5.45pm next Tuesday the 1st of May at the Churchill cricket nets. We will try to give everyone a bat and have some much needed fielding practice as well.

We will not be beaten.
